Ruckus (Standalone Mode)

This guide will show how you can set your Ruckus access points up to use the Amplespot.

This integration has been tested with the following devices:

  • R300
  • R600

According to Ruckus documentation, integration shall also work with any other Ruckus access point running Standalone or Solo firmware.

Compatibility Requirements

Please ensure your Access Point is running firmware version 100.0 or greater.

1. Add your Ruckus Access Points to Amplespot Admin Dashboard

Login to your Ruckus Access Point web interface, select   Device in the Status section of the left-hand menu. Make note of the MAC Address

Now head to Amplespot Admin Dashboard click on Access Points in the left-hand menu and then on Add new Unmanaged Access Point

Select the Access Point make and model, type in MAC Address and Name, Select the Country and the Captive Portal Zone where you would like to add this Access Point. 

Click Add Access Point

Make note of the  Serial Number. You will later use it as NAS ID

Make sure that the name of the SSID used by the Captive Portal Zone exactly matches to the name of Wireless SSID that you will configure on your Ruckus Access Point.

2. Configure Hotspot Settings

Return to your Ruckus Access Point web interface, select Hotspot in the Configuration section of the left-hand menu.

Hotspot Service: Enabled
Redirect unauth. user to: http://cp.amplespot.com/rkst
After user is authenticated, Redirect to: http://cp.amplespot.com/wback

Primary RADIUS Server: <get this in Amplespot Admin Dashboard>
Secondary RADIUS Server: <get this in Amplespot Admin Dashboard>
RADIUS Server Secret: <get this in Amplespot Admin Dashboard>
	

Click  Update Settings to save changes

Click  Edit Settings button next to More Options. Set the following:

Temporarily block user after: 10 minutes
MAC Authentication: Enabled
MAC Authentication Password: -leave blank-
Acct Delay Time: Disabled
NAS ID: (you noted it in step 1)

Accounting Update Interval: 5 minutes
Interim Redirect Interval: 0 minutes
Maximum Session Time: 1440 minutes
Grace Period: 60 minutes
	

Click  Update Settings to save changes

Select  Hotspot in the Configuration section of the left-hand menu and click Edit Settings button next to Walled Garden

Add hostnames to the Walled Garden in accordance with this Walled Gardens documentation page. Use the complete version of the list (without the wildcard such as *.amplespot.com) as wildcard domains are not supported by Ruckus Standalone.

Once completed - click  Update to save your changes

3. Configure Local Subnet

Select Local Subnets in the Configuration section of the left-hand menu. Set the following:

Subnet: Enabled
Local IP Address: 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.192.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Starting Address: 10.0.4.1
Maximum DHCP Users: 200
	

Set subnet information to match the Network settings in the Amplespot Admin Dashboard. 

Click  Update Settings to save changes.

4. Configure Radio Settings

Select Radio (2.4G or/and 5G) in the Configuration section of the left-hand menu. Create or change a wireless network:

Wireless Network: -name of your wifi network-
Wireless Availability? Enabled
Broadcast SSID? Enabled
SSID: -name of your wifi network-
Hotspot Service: hotspot0
Local Subnet: -name of the subnet created in step 3<br>
	

SSID name must match the WiFi Broadcast name as set in the Amplespot Admin Portal for the network you will be using with this Access Point SSID.

Click  Update Settings to save changes.

We are finally done! Test by connecting to the Access Point.
